The ones who voted against it are the Dixiecrats. They are the Strom Thurmond types that are found in the Regressive Republican party to this day, though a few (like Zell Miller) continued to infect the Democratic Party. In the end, Zell Miller did find his "home" though - the regressive Republican party.

Btw, Trent Lott said (in the 21st century!) that if they had Thurmond as President, we wouldn't have had "all these problems" (like Blacks and Whites being made to drink from the same water fountain etc.)

It's true, Republicans used to care about civil rights. That was a long time ago though. Nixon changed all that by going after the George Wallace voters and pandering to them. REagan continued it and Bush finished the job.

Al Gore's father is irrelevant. Bush's grandfather was a pal of Adolf Hitler. Want to go there?

More important, GW Bush took money from the Bin laden family for his first corporation. $50,000. Then he let him go at Tora Bora and hasn't gone after him since. Our #1 enemy.
