"The media uproar over our reporting reveals a media establishment choosing not to ask the tough questions about Obama's Muslim past: If he was raised in a secular household (as he claims), why does he have -- or retain -- Muslim names, Barack and Hussein? Were his father and stepfather as secular as he says? What is the exact nature of Obama's current religious affiliation and what are the beliefs and teachings of his current church in Chicago, the Trinity United Church of Christ? Does he adhere to these teachings or is he a Sunday bench warmer only? These kinds of tough questions need to be asked of all presidential candidates regardless of political party. This is the duty of a responsible press. We at Insight do not intend to shirk our responsibility -- no matter how often we are attacked. "

Obama has said he retained the names his family gave him because, first and foremost, they are HIS names....regardless of their religious or cultural derivation. Could it be he retains the name out of respect to his parents, and because we supposedly don't have a test in this country on whether our names are "appropriate". Are we now to change our names
because their origins are in disfavor? Ever met a man named Adolph? I have. Why doesn't he change it?

I thought if a person said they were of a faith, we watched their actions and moved on. Look at all the evangelicals (including the President) who have had religious awakenings or change of direction later in life. Obama says he was never a muslim. He says he is now Christian. He belongs to a Christian church. What more do we need? Must he prove he is "more christian" than Gingrich or Guliani or McCain or Hillary? Why? Because his name is different?

Insight printed a piece of news as fact that has been refuted. Their argument is not to admit they were wrong, but to claim that, while they didn't check the facts before claiming them as facts, that doesn't mean they are wrong! Somebody else should go check the facts...but they are still o.k. to claim what they want, facts or not.

Or, to say it another way, have you stopped beating your wife yet?

LOL!

Let's see... they *print* a smear-job... and they make NO EFFORT to establish the truthfulness, or lack thereof, to the charges... they just PRINT 'EM.

Nor do they bother to say the equivalent of 'this is a SMEAR that one of his opponents is trying to get us to run with, and spread through the media'....

THAT could have been a legitimate story, if written up that way.

No, instead this Moonie-owned outlet comes back with this kind of jingoistic crap: "If he was raised in a secular household (as he claims), why does he have -- or retain -- Muslim names, Barack and Hussein?"

LOL!

(Why don't WE ALL go to Court and change our names to 'Smith'... or 'Hiwatha' or something... so that we can ALL just 'get along'? What chauvinistic bunk!)

Let's see Sun Young-Moon (owner of this rag) change HIS name too! :-)

"Were his father and stepfather as secular as he says?"

Don't know, don't care. (But, it's been reported that the father was actually an Atheist.)
