I think you mean to say that compensation for people who work for the government, including the military and teachers, is set by the employer.

Federal, state and local governments are some of the biggest employers in the country. You know what your compensation will be when you contract to work for the government.

What I was asking about is having your compensation set by the government in a non-contractual basis.

I don't know what you do for a living, but I am a lawyer. I set my own compensation rate. The government doesn't want to interfere in my relationships with my clients. The state bar association has oversight over my practice, but it's minimal as long as I play by the rules.

I am not a government employee.

And I don't think you are suggesting that health care providers all become government employees.
