I also voted one month.

Even though I haven't had to ban people, and might not suspend them for calling someone an idiot (then again I don't moderate a stock thread), I don't have a problem with enforcing that rule.

I wasn't arguing against a suspension. But I though the small group of people who are dead set against it, might be reluctant to explicitly endorse it, and that might result in a permanent ban, if the numbers are close enough.

Suppose 30 people vote for a permanent ban. Suppose 20 vote for a month because they think its appropriate, suppose another 9 vote for a month just to avoid the permanent ban, and 3 refrain from either because they think even a suspension is ridiculous.

So you have 32 against a permanent ban and 30 for, but the vote would show 30 for beating 29 against.

If the vote isn't very close I don't think it will make a difference but if could if its very close.
