You had the wrong chart...and the wrong settings.

The Nasdaq index consisted of the technology stocks and new economy stocks that crashed so badly in the Clinton market bubble.

A logarithmic chart shows the percentage losses in a true proportion.

It's an old trick to show your chart without true proportion...the only people that do that are people with the intent to deceive.
