Nice article. It reminded me of Bush's proposal to cut oil energy usage...20 in 10 as I recall. Though it turns out it's not a 20% cut in today's usage, it's a 20% cut in the projected usage for 10 years from now.

I can't say that I predicted what W. was going to propose. I thought about several general approaches that he might take. And certainly didn't expect him to push ethanol, which so many conservatives were bashing just a few months ago. But in addition to his proposal to get the authority to adjust mileage standards, there is one general comment you can say about his proposals. Nothing meaningful is going to happen on his watch, he'll pass the problem on to the next President.

Another significant group that has begun to embrace the need to care for our planet's environment and to work to curb global warming are the evangelical Christians. Not all of them, to be sure, but the movement to protect the environment within that group is growing rapidly. Using the Bible, they reckon God made man the steward of His creations - all of them - on the planet and as such we all have an obligation to care and look after those creations, not destroy them. The greatest of those creations, from a human standpoint, is the planet Earth which, when you compare it to the other planets in our solar system, is a veritable garden of Eden floating in space. And, Evangelical or not, the worst sin of all would be to allow its destruction.

I heard one interesting interpretation of the bible the other day from a nut, I mean evangelical. His cut on it was the bible says there is going to be global warming and we shouldn't do [or can't do] anything about it because it's the prophecy for the end of days. Can't stop the end of days.
