Mr. Simonyi certainly has earned his trip to the space station. I remember when Excel was called Multiplan. The basic way one interacts with it haven't changed much over the years, but (always one of those), it's integration with other applications (software and protocols) certainly has gotten a lot more complex. Not surprising to see Mr. Simonyi branching out at this time in his life and taking the road less traveled. His new domain expert development method seems to be built upon bringing together characteristics of Rapid Application Development (RAD) and Universal Modeling Language (UML). Kind of like fuzzy knowledge meets object oriented development on steroids. Just like with windoz, the complexity of it all will likely be kept behind a curtain. I guess that is the practical objection. Lot's of buzz words involved in marketing software.
