After so many years, what difference does it make?

Some (actually most) might say paralysis of analysis.

shres quoted kirk thusly:

"I made quite a bit of money on counter trend rallies and actually showed a gain for 2001 in my newsletter by taking profits in the rallies and buying the declines."

--That's interesting, because as I remember it, kirk got most of the rallies and declines in 2001 and 2001 WRONG.

When the market would rally, and Bob would remain bearish, kirk (and others) would gleefully post that he had "missed the bottom."

I think when experts say that market timing is a fool's game, they are talking primarily about short-term timing like kirk does ("selling the rallies and buying the dips).

That kind of stuff is REALLY hard to do, as Bob used to tell us prior to his QQQ fiasco when he tried to do exactly that.

For example, we haven't had any kind of meaningful correction in a long time. So I wonder how kirk has been doing "buying the dips." If he "sells the rallies" he must have sold everything by now! -:)
