In your situation I think anything more than a very good 2000 dollar deductable major medical is foolish.

Tell that to my bride of 41 years.;-)

My wife broke her knee in a horse accident in 1999. Bad break and she was in the hospital for two weeks. Dr.N was the dr. of record and the surgeon on her knee. Every day dr. B would come in and look at her chart and leave. Less than a minute stay and no conversation. That cost $80 a day.

The kicker is my wife went to a clinic for a gyn check up 5 years before and never went back. They still had her on the books as a patient so dr. B would check who was in the hospital for whatever check on them at $80 per walk-in. She was in for a broken knee not a gyn problem. Had to fight tooth and nail to get that larceny stopped.
