The monthly employer contribution for current Alaska public employees is $860/month (plus they have to kick in some extra depending on which options they want). This is well over the limit for Bush's proposed $7,500 tax deduction, so they would be noticeably affected.

It looks like my retirement insurance is currently below the deduction cap, but if costs continue to rise faster than CPI it would eventually rise above the cap. The retirement insurance is secondary to Medicare after reaching age 65, so it appears I could end up paying taxes on phantom income from which I receive little benefit. I'm really blindsided that Bush wants to raise my taxes, as I expected that to come from the Democrats.
