The fact that oil is in the national interest of industrial nations does not eliminate the myriad other values which are in the National interest such as security, safety, confidence in the security of allies, vigilance against military dictators and genocidal despots--and so forth. But oil is in the National interest and any threat to our oil supply would in and of itself justify a full scale war of self defense. The major issue at this point in world history, however, is the ongoing war between civilization and barbarism. Oil, water, food, trade, etc.--these are details. The issue is trying to contain BARBARISM so that civilized values may endure.
