Small business is THE engine that drives this country. The proposed FLA with PAID 5 weeks EVERY year will not benefit the small company at all. In fact, it will cost the company a lot of money, and many small businesses can not survive as their margin is generally very thin for the first few years. It will cost more in taxes, it will cost the company to pay for the employee while they are gone, and it will cost the company money for a temporary employee while the regular employee is absent. That is, assuming the employee was worthwhile in the first place. Small businesses know if every employee is worthwhile or not. If they aren't, they are gone. Where it will REALLY cost all of us more money, will be in the cost of any type of Government business. In many cases, there is redundant built into the system, and some employees won't hesitate to use the FLA whenever possible.
