The Iranians needed weapons in their war with Iraq. We supported both of them. This was a negotiating tool for us in terms of the hostages as well as financing the Contras. It was right and it was done in the interests of the American people. Iran (from the Shah days) was totally American in terms of planes, etc. They had hostages and we had the spare parts to help them and Iraq kill one another. Right for the time...
