He warned the public not to employ a runaway housemaid. "She could be suffering from an infectious diseases or she may have committed a crime or she is involved in some other dangerous issues," he said. Meanwhile, a DNRD official said that the deposit paid by expatriates to sponsor a domestic helper will be revised "so that they can sponsor domestic helpers without much of a financial pressure". He said one of the reasons for absconding maids is that they get easily hired by expatriates who do not wish to pay Dh15,000. He added that the new contract will be unique. He, however, stressed that the department will not interfere with the salary to be paid by the sponsor to the housemaid. The cost of sponsoring a housemaid for expatriate is Dh10,000 in fees for a two-year residency visa period and a Dh5,000 deposit. In addition the expatriate has to pay Dh1,200 for medical check-up and Dh200 for issuing the visa.
