"I have to laugh at the potheads on SI who post that pot is some wonderful thing that can cure alzheimers or asthma or cancer or whatever and can't ever hurt anyone for any reason."

I deeply resent your attempt to degrade health benefits for people.

Marijuana is the most powerful drug known in the fight against alzheimers. Do you want to talk people into staying sick?

It fights cancer. Why would you want people to think otherwise?

You have been brainwashed by our own government. Wake up.

A couple of days ago, the cops killed another person in this "war on drugs."

He was unarmed. He was shot six times .. once in the back. His friend was hit by a police car. This friend was also unarmed.

If anyone uses a automobile as a weapon, they go to jail.
If you shoot an unarmed person in the back, you go to jail.

Unless you are in law enforcement. Then you are exempt from murder laws. You just might get a raise.

The most dangerous thing about drugs is the risk of being killed by the police.

My opinion - Beyond what I recently posted.

I think the pro-drug legalization side frequently overstates their case, and too often seems pro-drug rather then pro-legalization, but I still think the practical facts line up on their side when carefully considered (esp. for marijuana), and philosophically I think its a bad idea for government to try to exert so much control, esp. in cases where such control is resisted strongly over time.

Ah, but realistically and practically, the level of welfare state we have now is not going away.

I agree its very unlikely, but that doesn't mean that it justifies a strong level of government control. And the argument that it does, if taken to its logical conclusions, is scary.
