I think I prefer some of the more upbeat movies coming from the ME. I really liked Smell of Camphor, Fragrance of Jasmine, the Mirror, The White Ballon, Children of Heaven, The Wind Will Carry Us, and Gabbeh. I also like Baran- it's probably one of my favorite movies, because I think it has many Shakespearean elements (cross dressing, star crossed lovers, etc), even if it doesn't end happily (but it isn't as big of a tragedy as it could be- so that's a good thing.)

The Syrian Bride is just an amazing movie, if you have not seen it yet. I do not think I have ever seen the position of the Druze in the Golan Heights so well explained.

From Israel I liked Broken Wings, and Kadosh.

I have not yet seen Marooned in Iraq, and I have heard very good things about it.
