Taxation is compulsion, and compulsion, beyond what is essential, kills compassion.

Compassion is good. I am not advocating that we tax people to the poor house especially all those in the vast middle class. Unfortunately taxes are essential and we are not going to do away with it.

I am advocating that the very rich should pay a lot more in taxes, but not more than necessary.

The question then becomes what is necessary or essential.

I am advocating that the wealth of the nation is shared with all the people. In the best case scenario, there is enough for the rich to earn as much as they can and still have enough left to provide the essentials for those that can not or do not wish to help themselves to cover the bare essentials.

The best case scenario should not discourage people from being compassionate.

We are not anywhere near a best case scenario, but we are also not that far away. If we continue to make progress at the rate we are in developing science and technology, we can come closer to a best case scenario.

It should be something that is part of our national vision. Something to work towards.

To start with a vision to create a dog eat dog society does not make any sense.

llaine wants people TO BEG. That's disgusting.

American citizens do not have TO BEG. It's A RIGHT of all American citizens to have the basics of life: shelter, food, work, civil rights, roads, etc.

That's a basic right even if you can't see it.

What you want is for others TO BEG for their supper like some modern day Dickens novel. You want people to grovel before others.

You are a truly sick individual. You don't have compassion, you're simply mean.

Excellent point.

Charity is the act of giving your from your spare or extra stuff. Some think it is best when it involves a personal sacrifice. Although there is a societal need for the consideration and support of those in need, welfare, financial aid, government incentives, entitlements etc. can't rightfully be considered charity.

Some people have very confusing ideas about charity. Genuine charity is one of the most mature human acts possible. As such, it is legitimate only when it is freely given without coercion or expectations by the giver for benefit beyond that realized by the receiver.

It always amuses me when indebted college students who are dependent on financial aid and/or parent support contribute to charity. The act is not genuine. If they have extra money they have an obligation to lessen their burden on others. Otherwise they are only increasing the burden on their supporters, without consideration, which is the opposite of charity. The system parents/government has been charitable to them and the funds are obligated to be spent as intended. After they have given (from parent/government support) how do they meet their obligations at college??? They must get more from their support sources. They haven't been charitable in giving money away that they have borrowed on other other pretenses, they have been corrupt for some self serving purpose.

I like your three Cs. Charity and Compulsion are not Compatible.
