I just ran into the publisher of one of the most important Jewish newspapers and was discussing that piece from the NYT with him... he thinks that only roughly 20% of American Jews share the neocon view about Israel, but most of the other 80% don't care enough to be vocal like those 20% are. He's probably underestimating that 20%, but not by much.

Many American Jews have a total blind spot in regard to Israel.

Maybe in your generation, the younger crowd is more mixed in their view, Pops.

"If American Jews start confusing the issue by defining criticism of Israel as anti-Semiticism, then they are likely to see a significant increase in anti-Semiticism."

This is already extremely common. Many American Jews have a total blind spot in regard to Israel. Either that, or they feel the holocaust entitles Israel to special treatment and/or status.

I am not sure its a blind spot so much as dual loyalties. Many Jews believe another Holocaust is possible and they want Israel there just in case.

It's a done deal NOW, and they have a right to stay, and the nukes to ensure it. But we AMERICANS don't have to guarantee it. It's against our national interest to do so.

I agree.
