As kids, we were always popular with the others because we kept a horse or two. Many other families had horses as well. My dad, grandfather and an uncle always took my brother and me hunting and fishing. We used the horses to get into the high country and to pack out a deer or elk. They were lots of work, but also enjoyable most of the time.
