Friend of yours ? Lawmaker censured The South Dakota Senate yesterday censured a lawmaker accused of fondling an 18-year-old male page in a motel bed. Democratic Sen. Dan Sutton admitted sharing a bed with the page last winter but denied groping him. The censure has no official effect on Mr. Sutton's powers, the Associated Press reports. The Senate could have expelled him.

I also live in California, and we must hang out in completely different circles. Windsurfing is difficult, but even amongst surfers, it is an elitist sport. Not a lot of blue collar guys out windsurfing. Unfair? Maybe, but in today's politics, image is important. I'm afraid we're past the days where being honest, hardworking, and a patriot will get you elected as president. Today's presidents have to made a personal connection with individual voters, through today's media lens. Clinton could reach through the television and grab you by the lapels. Kerry is like listening to your old uncle who fought in the Big One and wants to retell every detail. Yes, important stuff, but can bore the eyeballs out of your socket. Today, Washington and Lincoln won't be elected. Washington was a stiff formal speaker, and Lincoln was too physically unattractive. Yes, people today are much more superfluous in their choice, and today's political machinery is geared towards exploiting that voter shallowness. There's nothing wrong with being rich, as long as you can make that connection. Kerry can't. Too bad, good man, served his country bravely, should remain a senator.
