They say the Iranians are hostage to a bad regime. Well, I say the Americans are hostage to a bad regime. We need good leaders now! I wish impeachment and removal were a realistic probability. Yes, we have to take care of our errant leaders as does Iran their's. Did you see that Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, got reprimanded in recent elections and there was a demonstration in Teheran complaining about his rhetoric? Remember we are dealing here with Persians, not Arabs, and these are probably the best educated people in the ME outside of Israel. Now, having said that, I'm not as soft on Iran as you are. I think we need to deal with Iran, but I think there is an enormous amount of pressure that could be brought to bear if we had the right leaders. Bush only knows how to use the military to pressure other countries. And one thing I know about the middle east, Islamic culture, is that it's all about testosterone and machismo. If we threaten them with violence, they will call us on it. And certainly we can deliver on our promise of destruction, but I think if we had good leaders, we could bring more intelligent pressure to bear through diplomatic and economic means. Trust me, if Iran were really the enemy the neocons say they are I would be the first to demand action. Iranians are not the problem.......or at least not the entire problem. Like you said above, we are just as much the problem. And if you read an objective review of the history of American/Iranian relations, you will see that Iranians have good cause to be pissed at us. America's intrusion in the affairs of other nations did not start with the Iraqi war. We have have been nosy and intrusive neighbors for decades now. Whenever we have not liked something about another country, we have tried to change it.......all in the name of security. Its a load of crap. The only difference was in the past we tended to stay behind the scenes.....unlike with Iraq where we went in with all guns blazing. Those of us who are responsible need to keep our heads and prevent more warring from erupting. Anyway, 2 years and counting. Will we survive for 2 years without WW III starting? We can only hope.
