They are not perceived as "black" leaders, they are simply leaders who happen to be black.

That is the key difference; if Biden had focused on that, that Obama is a new kind of African-American candidate with broad appeal, it would have been good press.

Highlighting "clean" and "articulate" invites the implication that other black candidates were not, which is insulting to a majority of listeners, IMHO.

Like I said before, Biden is really entertaining on a lot of subjects. But I don't think anyone will want him in the White House in any capacity.

How about US ambassador to the UN? That would be fun.
