I am thinking that Feb 27 may have something to do with Japan, since their fiscally years end at the end of March. Feb 27 is the last notice day for Comex gold silver copper and aluminum futures for Feburary. So if you have bought a gold future, and physical delivery, this is your last day to give notice that you want the physical Feb 28 is the first notice day for March 07 gold silver copper and aluminum futures. I am not sure how all this might fit into the unwiniding of the Yen carry trade....
