When you fish you don't have control of what type of fish you catch, some species aren't edible or they are too small or protected.

Recovery rates among caught fish vary, can be as high as 95% or quite a bit lower.

Fish brought to market on the other hand produces bycatch that inevitably dies. Four pounds of bycatch for every pound brought to market.
