Rudy can win the nomination if he makes peace with the christian right in the following way.
He says that "personally i believe in most of what you believe in regarding ethics, values, abortions etc. But as an elected official, my job is not to ram these views down the throat of folks who believe otherwise. So how together can we lessen abortions? allow gay folks to have rights short of marriage? allow stem cell research on embryons about to be tossed in the garbage. etc." Re abortions we can reduce the acceptable period because of sonograms while allowing birth control. Also ban late term abortions for the most part. ""
With the evangelicals luke warm on mcain and mormon romney, perhaps rudys honesty can get him the nomination to stop the hated hillary??? He also can pick an acceptable vp candidate.

>>" Rudy's big "negatives" as the party sees it, are support for abortion, gay rights, and gun control, plus, he saw his positions as similar to Bill Clinton's positions at least at one point in time.

Personally, I admire Rudy for wearing that dress, but many find it shocking.

Goodness...it appears that you have been much more "off" then "on" "in Republican politics for 20 years".

I don't know where you've been active, but you sure aren't hearing the same sorts of things I heard about Rudy in Orange County. They hate him. They'd like to dig Reagan up and run him again, but since we probably aren't ready for the first zomby president they're going to look for someone who reminds them of Reagan and their glory days...

I'd guess no matter who they pick, if the war in Iraq continues to go pearshaped, they lose. The American people are single issue right now. It's possible that changes, with intervening crises, but it's hard to see how intervening crises will play well for Bush, and republicans.
