"Anyways, it was a tongue-in-cheek comment."

Well, I was about to say that my main experience of the effect of the Bush period on India was the incessant phone calls we get from Indians representing our local phone company, Bellsouth, trying to get me to change to a faster Internet connection and pay them more per month for DSL. Nothing we say seems to stop these phone calls. At least once I have been interrupted by the speaker some 12,000 miles away telling me, "I am sorry, sir, but I am having trouble understanding your accent." The implication is that I talk funny.
