>> The girl you referenced was an anomaly

Define an anomaly? How low of a percentage does it have to be for it to be an anomaly? Every year, many people are shot due to road rage. Can we extrapolate from that and say that Americans are nuts and if you cut them off they shoot you?

In Iran, the punishment for theft is cutting off the hand (I am not sure how often this is enforced, but it is on the Sharia laws). That seems like an overly harsh punishment to me. On the other hand, in the US, the punishment for carjacking is death. I find that an even more unreasonable law.

We can go on picking on various statistics and laws. I doubt that we'll see a substantial difference. Clearly, there is a substantial difference between Iran and US. But I believe that difference is more cultural and a matter of perspectives than the absolutes the "Right" presents. Which is why I'd like to know the depth of one's understanding of the country rather than being persuaded by sensational images and news headlines.

As to Ahmadinejad, he can believe and want whatever he wishes. It makes little difference. The other day some Rabbi in Israel gave "fatwa" to slaughter all the Muslims. Who cares? The issue is what can they do about it? And the answer is Ahmadinejad can do zip! Unlike Kim Jong Il, he has no war power and little, if any, discretion over the nuclear program. Even Israel knows that. See Message 23241828

For more information on Iran's political set up, see Message 23240794

gotta go,

Ohmigosh, this Ahmedinejad guy is scary. Does he talk to his god and get instructions from him and then invade countries in the middle east to get his family revenge? Oh yeah, does he also completely control the world's biggest arsenal of nukes?

Hopefully his god has told him to cool it. Can you just imagine how much glass he could make of the world's deserts ignoring what he could do to Ahmedinejad's highway. Don't want him messing up that highway...could be quite useful for the second coming.
