I like the idea of a world community. It will take many many baby steps to get there, and we'll have to find a method for including the "welfare cases of the world" without allowing oursevelves to be dragged down by them, but given enough time, I hope it happens. Otherwise I think we descend into a Malthusian nightmare battle over resources, with no way to adjudicate our differences save war. Not my preferred future.

Pacifism, democcratic socialism, one worldism all (or some) may indeed turn out to be the core of the social system of the future. And even if that future system turns out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, going in those directions too fast can be what dooms what we call the free world. Brian takes this to the extreme in my view but folks who want that one world, socialist, no war nirvana ASAP in my opinion may do even more harm.
