he can unilaterally order a squadron of A-10's in Ajo to protect the border. And just gun down anyone near the border heading north?!? Even with such commands it would take more than one squadron to catch people going through the desert, and not everyone goes through the desert.

"If the president can unilaterally order a surge in Iraq, he can unilaterally order a squadron of A-10's in Ajo to protect the border." No, he can't. Different laws apply. Just like he can't order the military to stop riots or perform other law enforcement tasks domestically. Unless there's an armed invading force, his hands are tied.
