"WE may see mideastern societies as being repressed, but do THEY themselves feel that way?

Honestly Katelew, that statement is close to making no sense at all or at least rationally meaningless. Oppression or repression is a circumstancial and experiencial phenomenon. If a person is denied autonomy in life, that person is oppressed. If one is living under a coercive power being forced to conduct him/herself in a manner that violates nature or conscience it is oppression. I am certain every human being has experienced it on one level or another whether from an older sibling, overly authoritarian parent, abusive husband, or neighborhood bully. You can't honestly believe themignernt muslims over there in the desert don't get it... or do you?

"Most of the dictatorships seem to me to be fairly benign."

The concept of benevolent dictator makes for good literature but have you ever met one?

"Perhaps the average man in the Arab world is content with a simple life, lots of children, and a religious community that readily provides assistance and even welfare when necessary."

The average man living a simple life in much of the Arab world is as relatively content with their simple life. What's the point?

Be sure to respond with one of your signature condescending intros... (Sigh... OMG, Mercy Me!!! etc.)
