Swiftboat scumbags are simply jealous of Kerry.

--------http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A21239-2004Aug21.html
"Many Swift boat veterans opposed to Kerry acknowledge that their disgust with him was fueled by his involvement in the antiwar movement. When they returned from Vietnam, they say, they were dogged by accusations of atrocities. While Kerry went on to make a prominent political career, they got jobs as teachers, accountants, surveyors and oil field workers. When he ran for president, partly on the strength of his war record, their resentment exploded.

....

One of the men Hoffmann contacted was O'Neill, a longtime Kerry critic who debated Kerry on television in 1971. O'Neill put Hoffmann in touch with some wealthy Republican Party contributors. One of O'Neill's contacts was Texas millionaire Bob Perry, who has contributed $200,000 to Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Perry has also contributed to the Bush campaign."

--------

This is nothing but a soap opera about a bunch of thugs who are jealous of someone who simply achieved more than they did. Their anger met the Rovian crappola machine and, voila, they could get back at John Kerry.

Revenge after so many decades was much more important than truth to these thugs.

That's it. Simple, juvenile, uncivilized revenge. Oh yeah, the paychecks for the books and speaking tours and other baloney didn't hurt either.

Ilaine, re: "I wasn't there with Kerry. The other Swiftboat veterans were. I defer to their superior knowledge."

That's it?

You jump in to impugn the war record of a man who saw combat and when questioned on the basis of your opinion all you have is that?

The question was never what the Swiftboater's said, the issue was whether you should believe it. If all you had to add was that you believed it because they said it then I wouldn't have bothered reviewing the objective facts that seem to convincingly disprove their material allegations.

Polly parrots don't add much to the discussion.

And even then you've got it wrong when you say the Swiftboat veterans were there with Kerry. In Kerry's gunboat duties the guys in the boat were the guys that "were there," not the guys who got a bird's eye view or got things second and third hand.

Let's not kid ourselves. You have an innate ability to believe what you want to believe and then you can go into "no one's disproven it to my satisfaction" mode.

And what do you do when you get opinions or information you don't like? Do you look it up and reexamine your views or do you attack the messenger and close your small mind?

Let's look at the rest of your post and see:

"As for your opinion about what "most Americans think", you come up with that BS argument almost every day.

Somehow in your mind "what I think" and "what most Americans think" are one and the same.

You're a member of a relatively small faction, inside an echo chamber, reinforcing your views.

Fascinating, but not persuasive.

Yeah, it's all about people who come up with BS arguments, isn't it?

Next time try to form an opinion that can withstand scrutiny or, and this will be really tough for you, be ready to retract it. Cause the alternative is what you did this time: make yourself look silly. Ed

Is this something you "think" or something you and KLP "think" 'together'? Wow, what a potent force that would be. The flat earth trembles.
