A stock split doesn't "fool" these people.

They're looking at fundamentals.

You're right, institutional investing is a definite plus. It gives stability to the stock. Shorting, as you stated, generally occurs when a stock is overbought, but these shorts will eventually have to cover. Getting back to the r/s, I don't see any downside to it. If they did it now they could pull off a 1 for 3, reduce the o/s by 2/3, and still be cheaper than XM. Novices relate a r/s with an attempt to keep a stock from being delisted, but that wouldn't be the case here.
