GW is way too much of jumping on an alarmist bandwagon for my tastes.

It only seems like a jump. It's been a growing awareness, but the information has been suppressed and so when it became overwhelmingly obvious and had to be reported, it seemed like it just came out suddenly.

The earlier alarms such as the ozone hole are still true, but the problem is actually being addressed (by limits on ozone depleting chemicals) and so there is little to be gained by just repeating the alarms. That problem surfaced before Junior's watch and so was actually addressed.

As to variability in weather. That is just what you would expect when more energy is added to the system. It becomes more volatile. It now takes longer for the warm temperatures of the equator to equalize with the cold temperatures of the arctic and so when they do finally collide you get melting in the north and blasts of arctic air ever further south.
