Excellent point about the democrats. Revisionist history says that dems supported iraq war because they believed it would be successful (as did I) and didnt want to be on the wrong side politically. Now that iraq has turned out to be a failed effort, they become the pit bulls against the war save a few. Same thing happened in vietnam with a democratic president. I think the word is feckless and feckess usually loses in politics except of course when it goes up against reckless as in Bush. But bush will be gone shortly and the next republican, even a hawk like McCain, can run against the disingenuity of the dems and probably do it successfully.
