My dad was a school superintendent - his whole career was politics. A couple years ago (and my dad has become old and feeble but he's write about this) he said to me - Ya know Gloop, you remind me of me when I was your age. I had my opinions and I wasn't going to be happy until people held my views. Now that I'm 70 I look back and see how little my day to day life really changed regardless of leadership. It took me the better part of 70's years to realize this country is essentially on auto-pilot. We move left and right until the people think we've gone too far and adjust course. All the time spent fighting the extremes was wasted because the population will never allow us to stay there very long. His final remark was that we should all fight about things we mutually agree on....like our dislike for the IRS. I've sat back and thought about that for a number of years and Gloop Sr. is right. Why spend our lives fighting about something we cannot change?
