Well, to be fair, the ethnic groups in Yugoslavia are Catholic vs. Orthodox vs. Muslim, while the ethnic groups in Iraq are Muslim vs. Muslim vs. Muslim. Oh my... The Sunni, a minority group with little or no oil on their territory, have been hogging the revenue and routinely kicking the shit out of the Shi'a and Kurds for how long? And you thought that if we removed Saddam they would all get along... because they are all Muslim? I'm sorry, but it really wasn't difficult at all to predict that the Sunni would fight tooth and nail to retain the prerogatives they'd become accustomed to, the Shi'a would fight tooth and nail to assure that they didn't fall back under Sunni domination, and the Kurds would fight tooth and nail to sustain and extend their autonomy. It wasn't at all difficult to predict that Iran and Syria and Al Qaeda would exploit the ensuing chaos. It might have been more obvious if it had been scrawled across the sky in letters of fire, but only barely.
