Very interesting!

As you pointed out at Yahoo!, the only capable network for the device would be Sprint. The ramifications for Sonus are obvious as Sprint is in the bag.

The teleconference later on this month should be very interesting.

Heck, Q might even get royalties off the OFDM stuff. It might very well be doing the air interface chips.

Could this be the good news Keitel was talking about? Doesn't seem that significant, but whenever MSFT is involved, you have to expect a massive effort. It isn't going to just let Apple take over as its markets mature.

Might be a perfect storm of good news for QCOM/Sonus???

We can dream, no?

The device is described as being used for “consumer broadband access and networking,” which doesn’t sound like vanilla VoIP to me. Microsoft goes on to say that the device would use OFDM as its communications protocol, not WiFi or Bluetooth.

I havent dug up the original FCC document, but this sounds like VoIP over WiFi (802.11n?) to me. It uses OFDM and can be used for broadband access/networking.

I might be able to see Microsoft going with WiMAX next year, but '07 seems a bit early....
