"were small wars, you are mistaken."

People of Ilane's persuasion think that ANY war we weren't in was a small, insignificant affair. She probably also thinks we won WW II, though the Soviets fought and won 80% of it.

Myself, I don't ever remember EVER voting on "Pax Americana" and being world cop. I would vote NO. I think most Americans would vote NO.

Yes, from our perspective the rest of the wars you mention are "skirmishes," "flash-points," etc.

For example, hostilities in 1999 lasted three months. That's a small war. Clinton leaned on Pakistan to end it.

1971 lasted less than a month. That's a small war. America leaned on Pakistan to end it, the Soviets leaned on India to end it. Both hegemons sent a military presence armed with nuclear weapons to the area to prevent war from spreading.

1965 lasted five weeks. That's a small war. The Soviets brokered a deal to end the 1965 war.

Nobody was the hegemon in 1947.

Pakistan was allied with China before it was allied with us, but since it's been allied with us, we put pressure on the Pakistanis to behave, from then to now.
