No, I think it's just talk, more stimulated by the approaching crisis in Iran than anything else. The reference to Putin's reaction is old news.

The article talks about "intellectual response" and "asymmetrical response." They realize they can't beat us militarily.

No one can.

The only way is either to grow their economy big enough to be able to afford better weapons, or run their economy into the ground trying to catch up with us.

Much cheaper to just complain and do nothing.

Kumar, think more carefully, and skeptically: <Putin has reacted angrily to U.S. plans to deploy missile defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic, saying Moscow doesn't trust U.S. claims they were aimed to counter missile threats from Iran and will take relevant countermeasures.>

Uh, oh, Cold War 2 with MAD escalated ?

Not at all.

How many times has Russia/USSR/Russia attacked We the Free? What happened in 1871? Hint: history-world.org Note that Prussia is different from Russia. Who invaded Poland in 1939 and Czechoslovakia too? Not to mention Russia, France, bombed Great Britain and a lot more besides. Yes, Germany! They can't help themselves. Who were the evil-doers in World War I. Yes, again, Germany.

[Note that "free" is "serf" spelled backwards and they changed the first letter slightly so it isn't too obvious that we are still serfs; state serfs. When you see "free" think "serf" and you will have a more accurate idea on what our "freedom" really means].

Yes, Germany, is compulsively militaristic, though like Japan since being nuked and reduced after their efforts at building an empire, Germans have been rather subdued. But that's an ephemeral cultural oddity like Beatlemania, free love and hippie communes. Pretty soon, it's back to normal as merciless and relentless reality asserts age-old verities and DNA trumps a bit of dressing up.

It's not just Germany which likes to rampage around - think 1812 Overture, Force de Frappe, Rainbow Warrior, the only state sponsored terrorist attack in NZ - with friends like France, who needs enemies?

With nukes in Poland and Czechoslovakia, Russia/USA/Britain have got them surrounded. Putin squawks for good form. Germans aren't offended and France is busy watching hordes of Moslem jihadists. It SUITS Putin and Russia to have USA weapons of mass destruction nearby to protect pipelines to the big markets and to prevent Germany and France once again going nuts.
