Not so fast. 1856, Iran invaded Herat, part of Afghanistan. Afghanistant took Herat back in 1863 with British assistance.

The Russians took Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in 1884.

After that, Iran was squeezed between the Russian Empire and the British Empire, and not able to do much of anything aggressive.

Then from 1921 to 1979, Iran was governed by the Pahlavis, who didn't want any trouble from anybody.

Since 1979, Iran hasn't actually invaded any other countries but has funded terrorists to act as its proxy.

If you think we're going to let the dog have one bite before we decide it's a bad dog, the dog has been sending little dogs to bite us and our allies since 1979.

Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Kurdish Worker's Party, and now Muqtada al-Sadr and other Shia insurgent groups in Iraq.
