They don't get a lot of chance to attend an American football game. Also its not 500k people putting up money now for tickets, its 160k people entering themselves in a lottery. The 160k people have 500k ticket requests in, but they won't all win. It could include speculation (the thought that the tickets could be resold for higher than face value) and duplications (a group of four friends all requesting tickets for the whole group, either as a planned thing, or each separately without knowing what the others are doing).

The US has maybe 5 times as many people as the UK. And certainly more than 5 times as many football fans, but there are hundreds of football games in the US, compared to this one in the UK.
