"Why ...call Iraq a civil war and not Afganistan?"

Fair question, Sandy....

(I suppose it's because --- while the vast predominance of the combatants [except for the Americans] in Iraq are Iraqis, in Afghanistan I'd guess that perhaps at least half of the Pushtu Taliban combatants actually are nominally Pakistani... and the Taliban was created and directed by Pakistan's 'CIS', the ISI, for years and years... and still seems to be.)

So, although I personally have no difficulty with anyone who wants to characterize what's going on in Afghanistan as a 'civil war'... I also have no problems with anyone who sees it as merely an extension of Pakistan's foreign policy.
