I already explained it. I'll explain again. Those flags represent places where the United States has a useful presence.

And what's the point?

That presence isn't necessary for an air attack, and the US hasn't the available force or the political will to sustain ground operations inside Iran.

But if you're not arguing that the Iranians are going to kick our lily white asses

I didn't see anyone predict that. I certainly didn't. I just predicted that the US won't attack Iran, because it would be counterproductive and stupid. Of course given the Bush administration's track record that's no guarantee, but I guess I'm an incorrigible optimist.

In others, we have permission to refuel, or preposition materiel, or fly over, or dock.

These are things you would know if you made an effort to find out. I assumed Dayuhan had this rudimentary knowledge. I also assumed you had this rudimentary knowledge.

I would have assumed that you knew there were certain limitations associated with any permissions that we have with a specific country. Iraq, for example, wouldn't necessarily allow the US to attack Iran from it's territory. Hawk and I discussed this some time ago when the news came out that Iran and Iraq were working on such an agreement. Turkey was bribed pretty heavily by the US just to get flyover permission for the Iraq war. You may or have not noticed that Iranian and Turkish forces were lined up recently on the Iraq border threatening to invade Iraq to take care of the PKK. A terrorist organization that has safe haven in Iraq.

Having an American flag pasted on a map doesn't mean that the US has rights to do anything it wants. Those are all established through bilateral agreements which are country specific and I'll bet that none of those current bilateral agreements include rights for the US to pummel any country it feels like.

But if you're not arguing that the Iranians are going to kick our lily white asses, then this post will serve as a place marker in case you come back later and try to pretend you predicted this.

We have an integrated military, which includes white, brown, black and yellow asses. And there aren't enough US asses available to invade Iran. The only "option" we have is to bomb Iran.

Maybe you think that bombing Iran has no other consequences. Iran will just sit there and smile while it gets bombed for the 3-4 days necessary to take out it's underground nuclear facilities and all the surrounding countries while happily cooperate. I personally don't think the Shia in Iraq will be all that cooperative.

Since Bush is now more despised in the Arab countries than the PM of Israel. Let Israel bomb Iran if it's important to them.
