I wouldn't say that's my logic, I would say that's US policy. I will admit that it gets a little quirky at times. For example, everyone in the world [except the US] expects that if Iran were to possess a nuke and let it go onto Israel, the US would let loose a few hundred nukes from it's stockpile and level all of Iran. In the US, conservatives don't think that's a real enough deterrent.
