NEW YORK, July 25 (Reuters) - Three former corporate executives were charged in cases related to the manipulation of stock option grants on Wednesday as the U.S. government picked up its pace in bringing formal charges related to the options backdating scandal.

U.S. prosecutors charged the former chief executive of Brooks Automation (BRKS.O: Quote, Profile, Research) with tax evasion related to a 1999 options grant, and brought securities fraud and conspiracy charges against the former chief financial officer of SafeNet Inc.
