Yep... nominees all sewn-up by this time next year. (Likely one of the earliest decisions by the two Parties on their nominees in HISTORY....) And... anyone not well-into BIG CAMPAIGN BUCKS by this fall is all outta the running for the head of the ticket. (So, for example, if Newt sticks to what he has said in public, 'waiting until this fall to see if there is a vacuum' before deciding to get in the race or not... and, therefore, is not out hustling big bucks all summer long... then he is likely only thinking about a V.P. slot in some other candidate's shadow.)
