Bill Clinton did not connect with most of his racekind. So we should not expect Obama to connect with a large majority of the African-Americans either. I am sure Clarence Thomas, even though he is a Republicans supports Obama. Sharpton's support depends on his politics so does Jesse. But then you have OPrah, Spike Lee etc. who support Obama. And that is, I think what Obama wants: not to get support based on skin color but on the views and opinions or shall we say "the vision which includes "the Audacity of Hope""
