Far from it. When you destroy a government, as we did in Iraq, the prospects for lawlessness rise sharply. When lawlessness sets in then people who want to make trouble take over. What we did in Iraq was create the perfect growing conditions for lawlessness and a sharp surge in political violence. This is exactly the opposite of what we should have done had we been acting in our own national interest and in the interests of Iraq. We wrapped ourselves in the flag, mumbled ideological babble and then destroyed their country -- harming ourselves very seriously in the process. Government officials -- elected and appointed -- should go to jail for this.
