Ish, I have a 3 cyl diesel Ford/New Holland lawn tractor that i've been told can have some type of alternator/generator thingy attached to it to generate home electric in the event of a power failure.

Have you ever heard of this idea?

yes, tie it into my propane line, it tests itself once a week. has rechargable battery on it i expect the test each week charges battery and tests all switches etc. there is a transfer box that monitors electric coming into house. and within 30 seconds it kicks in the unit and up and running. i need 16k to kick in 4 ton a/c, well pump and hot water heater.
i expect it can handle frig, wash dryer, stove one or two burners. all would never be running at the same time anyway.

big key is the drain to kick in central air unit. if you add well pump it kicks you from small generator to 16k. but why fool with bottles of water, toilets etc if you can run the pump for a few hundred more bucks.

also from what i read the electric is pure , no danger of peaks or low drain on units in the house which i understand can ruin an applicance.

the big thing is no requirement to store gasoline around the house.
