Joe Klein said yesterday that the greatest crime of the Bush admin was soon after the war victory, sending inspectors on a wild goose chase looking for wmds while allowing weapons stashes to fall into sunni hands. This was done to justify the wmd reason for the war and while on the fools errand whatever chance for success we had fell to the wayside. Joe Klein is not a neocon but apparently felt that back in 2003 a way might have been found to stop the sunni insurgency and thus prevent this civil war from erupting. There may have been some hope back then but the admin was too intent on proving itself right rather than handling the coming insurgency.

It just seems it would be easier to cut off munitions supply lines than go door to door in Baghdad to flush out insurgents.
